Re: Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light

Running at startup is definitely bad! You shouldn't need to go into MSConfig though - if you look at the interface settings in the steam client there's a checkbox for "Run Steam when my computer starts" that you can uncheck. I suspect Steam is more irksome the fewer games you have on it - ...

Re: Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light

That's odd - it shouldn't be starting up again if you haven't launched another game that uses it. You definitely used the close/exit on the menu rather than just the X to close the menu? If you're online it will connect to the server each time you launch a game. But if you're not connected to the ne...

Re: Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light

Drac, you shouldn't need to use task manager to close Steam - there should be a little icon in the system tray (on the right hand end of the taskbar) that you can right-click and tell it to close. The fact that it leaves itself running when you quit the game is a little annoying, but it does mean th...

Re: Fable the Lost Chapters

I got the game a while back, was really looking forward to it but couldn't get it to run. Maybe I'll give it another try sometime soon.

Re: Thief 4 and playing games designed for consoles on PC

The problem is the publishers more than the designers - no designer or developer actually wants to release the kind of half-assed compromisery we see in Deus Ex:Invisible War (which still managed to be a good game - it was only a letdown because the original was so outstanding) or Oblivion (which ag...

Funny that - it's almost as if the game was designed for consoles first and then ported a little sloppily to PC or something...

Re: Does anyone here play on consoles?

I've been playing Chrono Trigger and enjoying it a lot too - very creatively put together and a lot of fun. Some great character moments too. And because it's on the DS I can play it in bed!

Gah. My 'must play' list isn't getting any shorter.

Doesn't look as though it's out here, though.

Re: Perry Rhodan: The Immortals Of Terra Review

Good review, thanks DB! I think the thing I liked most about the game was the number of things that seemed designed to be played with. The cost of development these days means that all too often only actions that are necessary are allowed at all, and anything not in the walkthrough gets left out. Ex...

Thanks DB - I'm looking forward to this one a lot. If it's anywhere near as much better than Moment of Silence as MoS was better than Mystery of the Druids...

Speaking as someone who's finished the game, then: The control system was quite a minor concern. Or would have been if the game had been better designed. As it is there's endless backtracking, lots of sequences where you have to talk to someone then wander around all the other characters to see whic...
