My thoughts about Still Life

Postby danyboy » Sat Jan 28, 2006 10:25 pm

Hi guys,

[EDIT] I haven't been fair with the game, I was mad at that time over two things, the ending and the robot puzzle, after playing NiBiRu I realised that we can't evaluate a game on one puzzle we didn't like or did like, we need to see the all of the picture, so here's a review of my thoughts

When I first start the Still Life game I was thrilled about it, story was very good, graphics were also very well done (except some parts of the game that I found very dark) some puzzles were challenging, the picking tools puzzle took me a long time to figured out. There was some nudity and a lot of bad language, too much of it maybe. The last puzzle was the robot puzzle, I most have done that puzzle over 30 times before I got it right (even put the game on hold for more than a week), I don't like those action sequence puzzles cause I'm not very good with them and after succeeding doing that puzzle and seeing that it was for almost nothing I got pretty upset. Victoria the main character was a very mysterious and lovable woman, some cutscene were fantastic. My last bad thing to say about the game is that the ending was very disapointing, the result of it and the fact that I didn't have to participate in it was very sad. Even with all of those negative things I said about the game, I did enjoyed it a lot. Overall here's my rating for the game:

Graphics: 9/10
Story: 7/10 (ending lower this up a bit)
Puzzles: 8/10 (the robot puzzle lower this a lot)
Cutscenes: 8/10 (sometime they're very long and we wish that we could participate)
Overall: 8/10

This game was better than the last few games I played, it'sa fair and good game.

I agree. It's not one I would play again, but I enjoyed it. :)

I was hooked on the game and couldn't put it down once I started. The suspense was great, especially at the end. I kept expecting someone to come out and get her while she was in the hot tub.

I played it twice. The second time around, that laser puzzle was a whole lot easier.

I like the part where Victoria is running after the supected killer, I wish that we could have participate in that part and at the ending I wish that we could have done something not only watched a cutscene.

Hi guys,

Thanks Ghostlady,

I didn't realised that it could be a spoiler, since it's a cutscene and we don't have nothing to do there. Sorry about that. I sent a PM to Melia cause I wanted to discuss a very big, big, big spoliler

I really enjoyed "Still life" and loved the lazer puzzle, I was a little dissapointed in the ending, but thought they might have ended it that way for a sequel. Im hoping anyway. :)

The ending when she was in the hot tub left me feeling like soneone was going to jump out and kill her. It left me waiting for more....like a sequel!. I was really disappointed to hear that there wouldn't be one.

Microids was bought out by Ubisoft. Ubisoft acquired all the employees, but the rights to Still Life belong to Microids. So, the people who made Still Life are no longer in the company that owns the rights to Still Life. Even if Ubisoft wanted to make a sequel, they don't own the rights to Still Life and Microids doesn't have the makers of the game. What a mess!

I read this about the Still Life ending just recently and it explains a lot, I think. It seems that the creators of the game had a very definite ending in mind, but Microids ran out of money before they could make that ending. So they had a choice of either scrapping the game entirely or putting it out with a quickie ending, not one they were happy with but the best they could do under the circumstances. They opted to go with putting out the game and I, for one, am happy that they did even though the ending completely baffled me. I kept trying to do it over thinking I had missed something important somewhere. It was a bit later that I found out that others were also puzzled by the ending and were hoping for a sequel. Never going to happen, but even so I still like it in spite of that arcade game with the spider robot. It's one of my keepers!
