It's not holding its charge - it seems I should be turning off the wifi when not in use. This is all new to me.

Whoop whoop - I have even managed to transfer The Mystery Box just now from PC to Kindle

That could be why it was in the resale bin - the battery won't hold a charge any more. Those older Kindle readers were supposed to be good for about 8 hours with the WiFi on. But if that helps, just turn it off and keep the charger handy!

A friend of mine has the PaperWhite and thinks it is the best reader ever invented!

I have the Kobo Aura, with adjustable lighting and all other bells and whistles, and absolutely love it. Kobo has as big a selection of ebooks, etc. as Kindle too.

I think that PaperWhite also has adjustable lighting, Diat.

What sort do you have, Drac? The Fire?

Glad it worked out for you. I too love turning and just touching books... but I must say I have fallen in love with reading it on my Surface Pro3 ... I don't hold it.. I prop it on my lap with the stand that props it up at all angles... and the best part I increase the font!.. so much easier to read larger print...

I read on my Surface too because I love the larger screen and the extremely high resolution. I can change text size and background color. It's quite heavy, but the build-in kickstand is perfect. I have a 1st generation Kindle Fire, but hubby mostly reads on that small 7" screen.

The Paperwhite doesn't have a kickstand, but you might be able to find a cover that does. But it is made to fit in your hand, so I have a feeling you might not need one. It has the highest resolution of all the e-readers at 300 ppi. It also has a built-in light so you can read in the dark. The $99 Paperwhite comes with some advertisements when you first turn it on. If you spend an extra $15 or $20, you can get one that is ad free. The battery is supposed to last up to 6 weeks!! If you read some reviews comparing it with other devices, it also has the highest rating for touch responsiveness.

The Kobo is also very highly rated, but it is quite a bit more expensive and the resolution is only 212 ppi. Many people prefer them because you are not tied into the Amazon ecosystem.

Something I just found out regarding reading on my Surface... I am on the couch with the Surface on my lap.. my left hand was to the left side.. my mouse was laying there.. I was touching it... I moved the middle roller wheel and my page turned.... lol... now I don't even have to move my hand to turn the page... the height of laziness..but pretty cool too!

I use that all the time with my Surface too! I have a "couch mouse" from Logitech and just a touch from the scroll wheel turns the page! I love lazy when I'm reading!
