I'm currently reading "Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl. Written by Herself." It was published in 1861 and reads like a modern-day novel. However, it is an autobiography of Harriet Ann Jacobs, a woman who was born into slavery in 1813. I just can't put the book down and I am amazed at her writing.
