So, I'm ready to take on Baal. Any advice??!! His minions are already dispatched.

Good luck! Have fun! :)

The only advice I have is that if the minions were dispatched while you were playing under /Players 8, restart the game so that you are playing under /Players 1 (which is the default), because even if you change it now, any monsters that were already generated stay at the difficulty that the game was set at then.

Oh, I didn't realize that. I was just going to set back to players 1 and go in. Thank you!

I did it, Jude! I beat Baal! I just got my assassin up to level 50 with lots of good armor and weapons. Ended up going in with a really good sword I found. That level 20 spinning blades was awesome through the whole game too.

Not sure what I'm going to do, but I might just keep this character and play around in the lower levels. Still need to do the Secret Cow level!

Congratulations! Do the Secret Cow Level!!! :)

Then if you want to keep playing with her, move on to the next difficulty level:
https://diablo2.diablowiki.net/Difficulty
https://diablo.fandom.com/wiki/Nightmare_(difficulty)

The choice to enter the next difficulty level is given as an option when you select your character when starting the game. The map will reset then, and everything will be much harder (and items and hirelings won't do as much damage, and protections will be less, too. Also, if you character gets killed, some experience as well as gold will be lost.

Here is the single-player forum for Diablo II (& LOD) that I used to hang out at, many years ago. I thought it was gone, but it's still active (knock on wood):

https://www.diabloii.net/forums/forums/ ... r-forum.3/

Also, Blizzard still has the Diablo II info pages up (knock on wood, again):

http://classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/

It has in-depth info on almost everything in the game!

Oh, BTW, the maximum level a character can reach is 99.

Interesting about that limit! I can't imagine being that high! I wasn't able to do the secret cow level after defeating Baal. I started a new game on Nightmare Level and once I got Wirt's leg, I tried it in the Horadric Cube with an empty Tome of Town Portal, but nothing happened.

But I'm dying often now and still having fun. Made it to level 51!

You have to go back to the Normal level's town (temporarily) with the character to enter the Cow Level (after defeating Baal). You can always get another leg by entering the portal to Tristram again and clicking on Wirt's body (just in case that needs to be done while in the Normal level), and the Tome of Town Portal doesn't need to be empty (but the Horadric Cube shouldn't contain anything other than what is needed to create the Cow portal). Remember, once you defeat the Cow King on a difficulty level, you can't re-enter the Cow level again on the Difficulty level.

So, I've killed Hephasto at the Hellforge and gotten his hammer. When I click on the forge, the blue soulstone appears on the forge. But no matter what I do or where I try to use the hammer, the hammer just drops to the floor! I kind of remember having to click on just the right spot when I played in Normal mode too. But I've been trying for two days now... I even went back and talked to Deckard Cain and he gave me another soulstone and told me to go to the Hellforge. I killed Hephasto again and the same thing is happening at the forge. The quest says, "Use the hammer on the Hellforge."

Got any ideas here, Jude?

Sorry, I don't remember. :( Do you have the hammer equipped in one of your weapon spots? (In other words, you aren't just picking up the hammer and clicking it on things without equipping it first, right?)
That's all I can think of... Maybe ask in the single-player forums I posted the link to earlier, if that doesn't help. Good luck.

Oh, good idea... I'll try that.

EDIT: A big old smackeroo to you, Jude!! That was it! Whew... now I can move on. I think I figured it out myself last time, but this time just had a total block!

My Assassin is at Level 60 and my merc, Ryann is equipped with the most awesome bow I found. It's called Kuko Shakaku Cedar Bow and shoots explosive and piercing arrows plus 160 enhanced defense and 40 - 180 fire damage. I found a claw called Ghoul Scratch that is loaded with damage and a Storm Mark Gothic Shield with even more! We are a killer combination. Never thought I'd be using a claw weapon, but it's quite effective. Now I'm upping my claw mastery in the skills.

Such fun and so glad you showed me how to get my games playing on Windows 10!
