You'd think so, eh? Rosa, thanks so much for sending that file. HOwever, for the life of me I can't see any place to change the number of lives. This is what the file looks like opened in Notepad:

- <GameInfo>
<Profiles />
<ActivePlayer name="00" />
<Options fullscreen="true" environment="75" sound="100" music="45" customCursor="0" />
- <HiScores>
<HiScoresElem name="none" score="0" uid="15638" cycle="1" stage="1" day="1" />
<HiScoresElem name="none" score="0" uid="1920" cycle="1" stage="1" day="1" />
<HiScoresElem name="none" score="0" uid="1267" cycle="1" stage="1" day="1" />
<HiScoresElem name="none" score="0" uid="20202" cycle="1" stage="1" day="1" />
<HiScoresElem name="none" score="0" uid="24196" cycle="1" stage="1" day="1" />
<HiScoresElem name="none" score="0" uid="21754" cycle="1" stage="1" day="1" />
<HiScoresElem name="none" score="0" uid="30989" cycle="1" stage="1" day="1" />
<HiScoresElem name="none" score="0" uid="18262" cycle="1" stage="1" day="1" />
<HiScoresElem name="none" score="0" uid="30576" cycle="1" stage="1" day="1" />
<HiScoresElem name="none" score="0" uid="30235" cycle="1" stage="1" day="1" />
</HiScores>
<LoadScreenData callsNumber="273" />
- <ScreensaverOptions ssEnable="false" timeMode="FastTime" rainMode="Sometimes" musicVolume="45" environmentVolume="75">
- <Backgrounds>
<Background enabled="true" />
<Background enabled="true" />
<Background enabled="true" />
<Background enabled="true" />
<Background enabled="true" />
<Background enabled="true" />
<Background enabled="true" />
</Backgrounds>
</ScreensaverOptions>
</GameInfo>

And, Drac, I tried a search for Hidden Files and no result. All suggestions gratefully received.

No, did you ENABLE hidden files? You can't see hidden files by default and have to enable it.

In IE, click on Tools, Internet Options and then on the Advanced Tab.

Drac, why would I look in Internet Explorer for a file that's on a downloaded game on my hard drive? I checked the box for "hidden files" when I ran "Search". Have I missed something here?

Actually, I may have found a solution of sorts - in the GameplayConstrc file I changed the number of points needed to get an extra life from 100,000 to 1000. This should give me some more lives to play with.

Also, on the Day 60 that started this discussion I've just managed to beat it with ONE life left. Yay for me! Talk about nervewracking, don't know how Rosa could do it 41 times.

I can almost play the game with my eyes closed, Diat :wink:

No, Diat, it is ME that is missing something! I'm trying to help someone else on a tech website and got mixed up! This is how you enable hidden files in XP. Gads, I'd forgotten how hard XP makes things!

To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:
1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
2. Double-click on the My Computer icon.
3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
4. After the new window appears select the View tab.
5. Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
6. Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
8. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
9. Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.
10. Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files

Thanks for taking time to help, Drac. I already had the relevant files checked/unchecked. Thing is, the gameinfo file is there but doesn't show a setting for "lives", but as I said I've found my way around a little cheat that gives me a lot more lives and avoids starting each level over. Not absolutely pukka I know, but it was either find a cheat or give up having snatched myself bald!
Rosa and the forum member of GGOTD who gave the advice about changing the file both downloaded their game a couple of years ago and I suspect the files may have changed a bit since then.

Anyway, thanks again to you both for all the help.

Whatever works! I'm in my 2nd go-around in the game and have 8 lives built up, but I can see them going down the drain quickly...

This is really one addictive game! I'm now on my 3rd trip around the world. Funny thing though, levels that were easily beaten the first time around were hard the second time and vice versa.

Don't some of the levels get harder on the 2nd Journey? I told you it was a really addictive game, Diat!
