Stella's Book List

The Language of Flowers - Vanessa Diffenbaugh

Having grown up in the Foster care system, one place after another, Victoria Jones has trouble getting close with anyone. Her only way of expressing her feelings is with flowers. Having turned 18, she has nowhere to go and sleeps in the public park. There she plants a small flower garden, having stolen the plants from neighborhood gardens. Soon a local florist discovers her talents and hires her part time. Will Victoria find what has been missing in her life?

This is Vanessa Diffenbaugh's debut novel, and I could hardly put it down. :)

I made this thread sticky, Stella, so you can add to it.

I just looked this up on Amazon and it got 4-1/2 stars, so lots of people enjoyed it too. I just lent my kindle to my DIL so I will have to wait until I get that back before I can read it. It sounds interesting!

mbday, you can download the free Kindle app to your computer and read it there too. I read on my computer a lot when hubby is watching something on TV I'm not interested in. Then after he goes to bed, I get out my Surface tablet and continue reading my book there.

Summit Lake - Charlie Donlea

A debut mystery novel, which has me hopeing for more!

Becca Eckersley, a first year law student, has been found dead in her parents summer home. Kelsey Castle, an investigative reporter, who has survived her own vicious attack only a few months before, works through her own anxieties, while searching for Becca's attacker.

Summit Lake is full of unexpected twists and turns. Stayed up late several nights just to finish it.

That sounds like one my Mum would like. I'll see if it is out over here.

Homegoing - by Yaa Gyasi

We follow two Ghanaian half sisters lives, along with their descendants. One lives her life in Africa, and the other heads for America in a slave ship.

A debut novel, very good. Hope we see more books from this author.
